Of the albums she went on to release, “Winner in You” and “Gems” performed particularly well. “Winner in You” is actually her most successful solo album, and reached No. 1 on the American pop charts. Successful singles from the album include “On My Own” and “Oh People”.

In 2000, LaBelle released When A Woman Loves; taking her in yet another direction. She remained one of the great entertainers and summed up the feelings of her fan base during a 1994 concert. Shirley Henderson of the Chicago Tribune quoted Patti at a concert appearance during sub-artic temperatures. Into LaBelle, a provocative trio, wearing space age, daring clothes and tackling adult subjects such as prostitution, which had been off-limits to pop music before that.

On June 10, 2014, LaBelle returned to Broadway as the cast and creative team of the Tony Award-nominated smash hit Broadway musical After Midnight, welcomed her as “Special Guest Star”. In August 2014, it was announced that LaBelle would appear in a guest role on the upcoming fourth season of the FX horror anthology television series American Horror Story, subtitled Freak Show.

Patti’s solo career became more established in 1983 upon release of her album I’m in Love Again – it was also the year Patti received her first Grammy nomination. In total, Patti has won two Grammys out of the 13 that she has been nominated for.

The album “Gems” was certified gold, and spawned the single “The Right Kinda Lover”. Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles continued to enjoy moderate success with singles like “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “Danny Boy” . In 1965, after their original label Cameo-Parkway shut down, the group signed with Atlantic Records in New York.
