Our lives are in rapid motion. And that means that we’re constantly making choices. And this is where the self-awareness or lack thereof comes in.
So when we’re in one of those heady, chaotic times, our choices can make all the difference. Because while some of our choices may not be conscious, they are certainly there. One way to look at this is as a system of self-awareness. What we’re doing is we’re choosing to become aware of what we’re doing.
We can start by looking at the choices we make at the time of our choice. How many choices does that leave us with? If it’s just a few, then that’s fine, because there’s no need to be aware of what we are doing. But if it’s a lot of choices, what are we doing? It’s not like we can just keep going with the same thing.
This is an area where a lot of philosophers have come to an agreement, that we should be aware of our choices and they should be conscious. Another way of looking at it is as a self-fulfilling prophecy. If the awareness of our choices makes us aware of ourselves, then that awareness will get stronger, and the choice will be reinforced.
If this was a movie we would be laughing, but in real life it makes me sad. A movie like this could just be a boring, pointless, depressing movie like any other. The movie is entertaining and fun, but what is the point? The point is the awareness of our choices that makes them real. If we didn’t choose to be aware of ourselves then we would still be in the same place, but the choices we make would not be as real. That’s exactly it. It’s how we react to our own actions that makes them real. The more we react to the choices we make, the less we can control them. By being aware of our choices, we can consciously choose to take action to counter the effects of our actions. In order to consciously choose to take action against a certain action, you first have to choose that action. Then you have to consciously choose to react to that action.
The idea that the choices you make are real, and the actions you take are real is the essence of mindfulness. In order to make the conscious choice to act against a certain action, you first have to choose that action. Then you have to consciously choose to react to that action.
One reason we can get so many people hooked on mindfulness meditations is that it’s not like the world is random; you can choose to be in a certain position. For example, if you want to get a workout, you can sit down and hold your breath for 20 seconds. If you want to get a massage, you can hold your fingers in your mouth for two minutes. These are all choices that you can choose to make consciously and then you can choose to react to each of them.
The problem with this is that it’s a bit like saying you can choose to do a meditation and then you can choose whether to do it or not. You can choose to do it or you can choose to not do it. If it’s a choice between the two, you’re missing out on a huge amount of potential benefits. One way of making that choice is through mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation is essentially a way of consciously choosing to react to the experience of your mind.
